Table 5  Commands & Colors: Napoleonics  15mm  Napoleonics  Bob Rioux and Mike Sammarco
Description: Historical Background
Four days after Wellesley’s initial clash at Rolica, General Jean-Andoche Junot, with an army of 14,000, attacked the Anglo-Portuguese army of 17,000 troops. Junot wanted to defeat the invaders before reinforcements could arrive by sea. The battle of Vimeiro began with three brigades of French advancing to take Vimeiro hill and the town, while a fourth brigade had swung right to turn the British left flank. Unfortunately for Junot, his frontal attacks were uncoordinated, and failed to pin the British troops in the center. Wellesley was able to redeploy his army to face the threat on his left. The French column attacks in the center were finally forced back by sustained British volleys and soon afterwards the flank attack was also beaten back. Covered by his cavalry, Junot retreated towards Torres Vedras and the British did not pursue.
Following the battle, the British senior commanders Generals Dalrymple and Burrard worked out a deal allowing Junot’s army to leave for France on British ships, taking all their guns and equipment. This deal, not surprisingly, caused a massive outcry in Britain.
The stage is set. The battle lines are drawn and you are in command. Can you change history?

211  Rodes to the Rescue!! July 1st, 1863
Table 11  Fill The Vacant Ranks  28mm  American Civil War   Mike Sammarco and Chris Bonni
Description: Historically on July 1st, 1863 by 11:30 a.m. the battlefield North West of Gettysburg was temporarily quiet.

On the Union side, after fierce attacks from Heth’s Division, Doubleday was reorganizing his lines on McPherson and Seminary Ridge as more units of the 1st Corps arrived.

On the Confederate side, 3rd Corp’s Henry Heth faced an embarrassing situation. He had been under orders from General Lee to avoid a general engagement until the full Army of Northern Virginia had concentrated in the area. But his excursion to Gettysburg, “to find shoes”, was essentially a reconnaissance in force conducted by a full infantry division. This indeed had started a general engagement and Heth was on the losing side so far.

To the North of both McPherson and Seminary Ridge, on Oak Hill, Rode’s Division started to arrive. Doubleday had not yet completed reorganizing his lines and 1st Corp’s right flank was completely exposed. But during the lull, 1st Corp’s lines solidified and 11th Corp moved to support.

Historically Heath and Rodes waited for Early to arrive and an all-out attack on 1st and 11th Corp started at 2:00 p.m. But what if Rodes had not waited and attacked at 11:30a.m. as Doubleday was reorganizing?

303  Deerfield 1704
Table 5  1676  28mm  King Williams War  Dave Valentine
Description: The people of Deerfield had long been living in fearful anticipation of an attack by French and Indians in Canada. Their stockade was built hurriedly in 1690 when they believed they were the next target of the French and Mohawks who attacked Schenectady that winter. Those residents whose homes lay outside the palisade, were encouraged by the town to build refuges within the protected area and to come there at night, for protection against an attack.

The fact that the houses at the north end of the street were empty on the night of February 29, 1704, because the residents of those buildings were “safely” ensconced in shelters within the palisade, gave the French and Indian raiders an advantage. They were able to creep noiselessly down the street and send an advance force to silently climb the snowbank that surrounded the palisade. This group then opened the north gate to admit the others, and the assault began……..”

Partial Narrative by Susan McGowan Titus based on research about John Hawks

The game will be centered around a small party of French and Mohawk trying to breach the palisade. The English will be tucked in their houses with only a couple of sentry wandering the streets. Can the French get the north gate open before they are discovered? Can they get away with captives?
